Institut f眉r K眉nstliche Intelligenz

Prof. Dr. Birte Glimm

Seit Juli 2011 arbeite ich an der Universit盲t Ulm im Institut f眉r K眉nstliche Intelligenz. Bis Juni 2017 als Juniorprofessorin und seit Juli 2017 im Rahmen einer W3 Professur mit 脺bernahme der Institutsleitung in 2022. In 2019 wurde unser Projekt "Do it yourself, but not alone: Companion-Technologie f眉r die Heimwerkerunterst眉tzung" mit dem Kooperationspreis Wissenschaft-Wirtschaft ausgezeichnet. In 2017 erhielt ich einen  und wurde mit dem Mileva Einstein-Mari膰-Preis ausgezeichnet. 

Vor meiner Arbeit in Ulm, war ich wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin im Department of Computer Science an der University of Oxford. Dort habe ich in der gearbeitet, haupts盲chlich an der Entwicklung von Algorithmen zum automatischen Schlussfolgern in ausdrucksstarken Beschreibungslogiken. Au脽erdem habe ich dort an der Entwicklung des mitgearbeitet.

Meine Promotion habe ich in Manchester in der gemacht, betreut durch Prof. Dr. Ian Horrocks und Prof. Dr. Uli Sattler. F眉r meine Dissertation habe ich den Best Thesis Award der School of Computer Science der Manchester University erhalten. Von September 2001 bis Juli 2004 habe ich an der Hochschule f眉r angewandte Wissenschaften in Hamburg Informatik studiert und wurde ausgezeichnet f眉r den besten Bachelor in 2004.

Bevor ich Informatik studiert habe, habe ich f眉r 3.5 Jahre in der Industrie gearbeitet und ich besitze au脽erdem einen Abschluss in Kommunikationsdesign.

Weitere Information

Mein wissenschaftliches Interesse gilt haupts盲chlich der Wissensrepr盲sentation und dem automatischen Schlussfolgern. Ich entwickle, implementiere und optimiere Algorithmen zum automatischen Schlussfolgern in ausdrucksstarken Beschreibungslogiken und analysiere deren Komplexit盲t. Ich habe zum Beispiel diverse Optimierungen f眉r Tableau Algorithmen, neuartige Verfahren zur Kombination von Tableau und Saturierungsverfahren und Verfahren zur Anfragebeantwortung entwickelt. Unser neuartiges Abstraktions- und Verfeinerungsverfahren erlaubt das Schlussfolgern 眉ber Wissensbasen mit sehr gro脽en Datenmengen. Weiterhin arbeiten wir daran, autonomen Fahrzeugen dynamisch Wissen 眉ber Kartendaten zur Verf眉gung zu stellen. Besonderer Herausforderungen sind dabei die hohe Dynamik und die gro脽en Datenmengen 眉ber die geschlussfogert werden muss. Unsere Forschung zur Generierung von Erkl盲rungen in nat眉rlicher Sprache, erlaubt dabei die automatischen Ableitung nachvollziehbar zu machen. 

Ich bin Editor der  Spezifikation, die im Rahmen der  des W3C entwickelt wurde. Entailment Regimes erweitern die Abfragesprache SPARQL so dass auch Schlussfolgern unter RDF, RDFS und OWL Semantik unterst眉tzt wird. Ich bin au脽erdem Editor der  Spezifikation, die Bedingungen festlegt, die OWL 2 Tools erf眉llen m眉ssen, um den OWL 2 Standard zu erf眉llen.
