Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Frank Kargl
Prof. Kargl did his PhD in 2003 and habilitation in 2009 at Ulm University. Before that, he was co-founder of and responsible for network operation and security in the computing center / KIZ of Ulm University. From end of 2009 to beginning of 2012 he was Associate Professor in the group at in the Netherlands, afterwards until January 2016 in a new position as adjunct professor. Since February 2012, Prof. Kargl is the director of the Institute of Distributed Systems at Ulm University. From October 2013 to September 2016, he served as vice dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Computer Science, and Psychology and then as dean until September 2018. Prof. Kargl is a member of , , the German Computer Association and its special interest groups and .
Research
My research interests are in the area of mobile and self-organizing networks like Mobile Ad-hoc Networks or Vehicle-2-Vehicle communication. Another research focus is on security and privacy in IT systems. Many of my projects lie in the intersection of both, like projects on security and privacy of vehicular ad-hoc networks. Other research activities deal with security of networked embedded systems, e.g., in the context of Industrial Control Systems (ICS) or building automation systems. Yet other topics include secure cloud computing, crypto-currencies, distributed graph-based computing and many more.
